Dear Ezra Chiloba,
I know you must be going through so much stuff right now. I am praying with and for you and I deeply empathise with you and your family.
They say nothing is easy in this world but now I believe being CEO of IEBC is not just difficult but dangerous and “dirty.”
Having said that, I believe it is safer and more dignified for you to start planning your exit from the Commission right away and strive to leave before the fresh Presidential poll slated for October 17, 2017 is held. This in no way means you are guilty of anything. It is the right thing to do at this time. There is nothing you will do now or in the future that will convince Kenyans, but especially so Raila Odinga and NASA supporters, that their interests will be safeguarded in future elections if you remain CEO.
You see, public life is not just about the truth. It is also about perceptions. Considering the view Kenyans have of investigative commissions in this country, even if you were to be found innocent, majority won’t believe it.
I have known you for nearly 15 years. We enjoyed vespers and Sabbath worship at UONSDA for over a year. Our weddings were held on the same day, mine at KU and yours in Ongata Rongai. Your ready smile and love for country music are infectious.
I have faith in your integrity as a person. But even if investigations were to prove otherwise, you will still remain a person I respect. After all, we are all human and we all make mistakes at some point in our lives.
So I ask you to take a deep breath. Pray about it. Then take that big step. It could save you so much heartache in the days ahead.
Yours sincerely,
Fred Gori
