The Kenya Police have now changed tune on summons issued earlier demanding ODM deputy leader Governor Hassan Joho to record a statement over robbery with violence allegations in Malindi during the recently concluded by-election.
The police are requesting (read begging) the popular Governor not to go to Malindi as per earlier issued summons and instead relas and wait for further instructions to be communicated later. In a brief statement, the police said they are scared of the masses that are expected to join governor Joho saying its not save as terrorists elements may take advantage to strike.
Yesterday a Mombasa based political analyst said CS Nkaiserry seem to act out of ignorance or lack of good intelligence, you can order Joho to record a statement in his stronghold and expect to be a silent affair.
“it is total stupidity to summon Joho to Malindi, that is his home ground or stronghold if you may like, if they must summon him then better be to a far Jubilee stronghold like Muranga, Gatundu or Nyeri otherwise any other place including Eldoret North will be jammed by masses, it is simple, when you find yourself in a hole you stop digging further thus Nkaiserry should give Governor Joho a break” – Dr Hamisi was quoted.
The letter from the Police contains other message that seem inconsistent with the right to assembly, prompting experts to question if National Police Service is trying to introduce a version of Uganda’s Public Order Management Act, 2014 through the backdoor?
