Supporters argue that Chipukeezy’s creative background makes him well-equipped to bring fresh ideas to the creative economy.
In a statement following his appointment, President Ruto noted that Chipukeezy’s innovative approach to entertainment and his wide-reaching influence, particularly among Kenya’s youth, will be vital in pushing forward government initiatives that aim to grasp the power of creativity and technology. “This appointment is part of our vision to empower Kenya’s youth and foster the growth of the creative sector. His goals include advocating for better infrastructure, funding, and policies that will enable the sector to grow sustainably.
The appointment of Chipukeezy comes at a time when Kenya’s creative economy is experiencing rapid growth. Digital platforms like YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, and other social media have allowed Kenyan entertainers to reach a global audience, making it a key pillar of the country’s economic development. This sector has contributed significantly to job creation, with many young people now making a living through online content creation and digital platforms.
By recognizing the potential of digital content and creative talent, President Ruto has shown that the government is committed to nurturing this industry for the future. As Chipukeezy takes on his new role, all eyes will be on his efforts to make a lasting impact on Kenya’s creative landscape, and whether his unique perspective can help shape a more vibrant and inclusive sector.
