I am not a doctor by profession but I have done some research about the lady pictured. This lady whose photo went viral while enjoying a lollipop and at the same time attending to a patient in an emergency wing is Dr. Phaustine.
I have learnt that she is diabetic, suffering from Type One diabetes. It is for this reason that she has to balance the low and high sugar level in her blood with insulin shots and glucose intake.
And so she normally take sweets to boost her blood sugar levels. Any doctor will tell you that low blood sugar levels kills the diabetic people more than high blood sugar levels.
Other than her work as a doctor, she volunteers her time and resources to run an NGO that provides free and high quality healthcare to rural people in Pokot and Trans Nzoia:
As if that is not enough, she runs an NGO that raises funds for paediatric care.
