More than 20 persons of interest have been identified for questioning over the murder of businessman Jacob Juma. So far ten people, including a woman he was with hours before he was found murdered, have been questioned.

Directorate of Criminal Investigations boss Ndegwa Muhoro said yesterday that they would question all those who had been mentioned by Juma as having threatened him. “There is nothing that will stop us from summoning or talking to anyone we deem as person of interest,” he said when asked if Deputy President William Ruto would be questioned.

The DCI said more than 27 officers visited the scene where the body was found and recovered two spent cartridges of an AK47 rifle five days after the incident. The cartridges are being analysed by ballistic officers. While giving the chronology of events leading to his death, Muhoro said that investigations had shown that Juma left Westlands at about 7.34pm.

The officers used the IC3 Command Centre at Jogoo House where they viewed shots taken through the Automated Number Plate Recognition cameras and video clips from the intelligent video surveillance cameras, said Muhoro. He was seen driving along Waiyaki Way towards the CBD.

Muhoro said his team is still pursuing various angles including criminal and civil suits which Juma was involved in as possible motives of the death. “Every theory is valid until it is knocked out by evidence,” he said. The Mercedes Benz that Juma was driving is now being analysed at the DCI headquarters.
