Deputy President William Ruto has now called on politicians to shelve talk on referendum and 2022 succession politics.
DP Ruto, speaking when he toured Meru County on Sunday, urged leaders to focus on development matters instead.
“This issue of ‘Punguza Mzigo’ and ‘Ongeza Mzigo’…let us drop it and work first,” said the DP.
“I want all Jubilee leaders to veer off from that agenda. The debate about 2022, and the referendum should not overshadow development.”
The DP’s remarks came at the end of a weekend of intensified campaigns by his allies – dubbed ‘TangaTanga’ – opposing the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) team.
“BBI is Blue band initiative… Raila wants the country to go to a referendum so that he can be Prime Minister,” said Kiharu Member of Parliament Ndindi Nyoro.
‘Kieleweke’, another faction of the Jubilee party, however criticized the DP Ruto-led team over their remarks against the BBI.
“We will follow what only President Uhuru Kenyatta says,” said Nominated MP Maina Kamanda in Kinangop, Nyandarua County.
