Deputy President William Ruto is not leaving anything to chance ahead of his 2022 presidential bid.
And while he cannot vaunt a united Rift Valley block, he is out to solidify a support base and is said to be pushing for the appointment of former Bomet Governor Isaac Rutto as President Uhuru Kenyatta’s adviser.
DP Ruto is trying hard to scuttle the CCM and KANU coalition that gravitates around Baringo senator Hon Gideon Moi. DP Ruto is said to be pushing for the former governor to be appointment as an economics and devolution adviser while other sources hint that he wants the former governor to lead the steering committee on RailaUhuru handshake. Being a former NASA principal Isaac Ruto will be best place to lead the unity talks.
The DP is said to be trying hard at consolidating the expansive and vote-rich Kipsigis region of Kalenjin and he believes appointing Rutto will help him “lock” the region.
The President who has snubbed a number of his requests especially on having his cronies appointed as Cabinet Secretaries is said to have not yielded yet
