Deputy President William Ruto on Tuesday summoned all Governors from Rift valley who are allied to Jubilee for a meeting in his Karen home in Nairobi and issued them with instructions not to attend the planned homecoming cum prayers for HE Governor Isaac Ruto.
Governor Ruto is expected to fly in from South Africa where he underwent a successful treatment following injuries he sustained last week after a rogue AP police officer lobbed teargas canister directly on his face at Silibwet stadium.
According to the source privy to the meeting, the DP read the riot act to the governors warning them not to set foot at the planned homecoming/prayers set to be held at newly constructed Bomet IAAF stadium so as not to give the Bomet Governor political mileage.
The source who declined to be named also disclosed that a section of Jubilee MPs who visited Governor Ruto at Nairobi hospital before being flown to South Africa for specialised treatment were reprimanded by the DP as to why they visited Governor Ruto to check on him and wished his quick recovery.
The source further said the DP is worried over the growing political influence and support Governor Ruto is enjoying of late in Rift Valley and across the country.
Two weeks ago, Governor Ruto toured Emurua Dikirr constituency in Narok county to market his newly formed Chama Cha Mashinani party and opened the party’s office at Emurua Dikirr Town.
The former Council of Governor’s chairman addressed a well attended rally at Emurua Dikirr primary school where thousands of his supporters turned up for the rally, a move said to have caused political jitters on the part of the DP.
“Some Governors and MPs feared visiting Governor Ruto at Nairobi hospital. However some flew to South Africa to to check on their brother and friend to wish him well, ” the source added.
