Kisii unity declaration spearheaded by Jubilee rejected by residents:
Jubilee’s strategy of uniting Kisii county leaders to support Uhuru in 2017 general election was rejected by residents. A rally organised to declare Senator Chris Obure (ODM) as Jubilee’s flag bearer in the 2017 Kisii Gubernatorial race and Charles Nyachae for Senator turned chaotic after a charged crowd of both youth and old women and children started chatting anti- Obure/anti-Jubilee slogans and pro- Governor Ongwae/pro Raila hymns.
Jubilee strategy in Gusii is to have all top leaders defect to a jubilee leaning party that will have no presidential candidate BUT instead support Uhuru presidency. After elections Charles Nyachae will be made speaker of the senate or at worst deputy speaker while Obure will assume governorship.
Troubles started after the area MP Richard Tongi hinted out to the crowd that the group’s flag bearer in 2017 Gubernatorial race will be Hon Chris Obure.
Chaos erupted for several minutes and the function was disrupted for some minutes.
The turn of events forced subsequent speakers to change the topic of the day to that of supporting Education CS Fred Matiangi who’s being blamed for the burning of schools in larger Kisii area and around the country. In the end no political declaration was passed.
Calming down the rowdy youth Kisii county deputy Governor Joash Maangi assured the residents of their support to the current governor.
“We did not come here to campaign but we will come again in another day so calm down as we continue to unite Gusii Community,” he added.
