Bungoma Senator and Ford-Kenya Leader Hon Moses Masika Wetangula has been striped off Minority leader in the senate position his Siaya counterpart and senior James Orengo (SC) takes over in what is seen as a shake-up following the Raila-Uhuru pact.
ODM party that is the largest in NASA coalition wrote to the speaker of the senate Ken Lusaka to have Hon Wetangula removed as the senate leader of majority and replaced by ODM’s James Orengo.
Speaker Ken Lusaka agreed to the request but asked ODM to follow laid down procedure in line with standing orders to ensure a smooth transition to have Orengo take over as the senate minority leader.
“The removal of Senator Moses Wetang’ula as Senate Minority Leader though valid, stands suspended and will not take effect unless and until a Senator has been elected by the NASA Coalition in the manner provided by Standing Order 20(1) has occurred and the communication to that effect together with the minutes evidencing that decision has been made in writing, to my office by the Senate Minority,” Lusaka ruled.
There has been a disquet among the NASA coalition partners after the Raila-Uhuru handshake outside Harambee house last week. ANC leader and Lugari MP Ayub Savula had earlier said that they were ready to take up the opposition mantle if ODM joined Jubilee.
Leaders in Wiper, Ford Kenya and ANC have also said that they want a convening of the NASA parliamentary group committee to discuss the way forward for the coalition.
