Caroline Mutoko steers clear from her usual socialite talk and for once oozes political wisdom. 😀
Read what she thinks of Ababu quitting ODM.
“My understanding of the role of a leader is to legislate laws and drive Govt to craft and implement policies that pull citizens out of poverty and promote the enjoyment of rights and prosperity for all. So far, no one who has quit CORD to form parties paid for by Kanu/Jubilee has attained any of these ideals.
What difference will Otuoma and Namwamba bring? Just like Mudavadi’s party could not win Vihiga governorship, Otuoma and Namwamba might not even be assured of their parliamentary seats. The true mettle of a leader is demonstrated by how much they are prepared to withstand frustrations and suffering.
Namwamba’s only known frustration in ODM was when his election as SG was snatched from his mouth. That alone should not make a leader to quit a party…..people like Raila, Muliro and Shikuku went through worse..including Detention. Tony Blair at one time betrayed a commitment to hand over power to Gordon Brown as British PM after 4 years. Gordon did not quit, he stayed inside Labour and fought till he removed Blair.
In Tanzania, at one time Kikwete was poised to become the CCCM president after Mwinyi. The party prevailed on him to step down for Mkapa. He waited ten years in CCCM and became president. In South Africa, Jacob Zuma instigated a political coup against Thabo Mbeki. Thabo quit the presidency, but he remains a strong ANC founder member. That is what leadership is all about-tolerance, determination, standing up to fight again-and from within.
Namwamba has not demonstrated any of this. As chair of PAC, Namwamba all of a sudden flaunted wealth and a lifestyle that he had never been associated with from his humble beginnings as a University lecturer. When ODM started questioning this, then ODM was dictatorial and undemocratic. You cant eat your cake (integrity) and still claim to have it….you must be a chicken seller and a “hustler”to think that is possible!”
