Fears of Cholera EPIDEMIC in Nairobi as Jubilee Govt desperately covers up outbreak

One person has been confirmed dead and hundreds others admitted to hospital as Kenya Today confirms that Cabinet Secretaries Henry Rotich (Treasury) and Adan Mohammed (Industrialisation) are among the up to 100 patients presently admitted at various hospitals in Nairobi with what has been confirmed by confidential medical sources as CHOLERA infection.

Late last evening, Nairobi Hospital had filled a ward with cholera cases whose last meal is being traced back to a trade expo at Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC).

With medics confirming the cholera outbreak and government engaging in a purposeful cover up, there are fears that the person(s) who contaminated the trade expo food at KICC will return to their homes and expose their household and neighborhood to risk of infection.

Another possibility that worry medics could be water contamination which will flow on to other taps within KICC which has hundreds of offices, shops and restaurants.

Already facebook user Branice Mayienga who had a meal at KICC trade expo with friend George Makosala is mourning her friend who passed away yesterday due to “food poisoning” while another facebook user Lisa Daniel’s who attended and ate at the KICC trade expo was complaining of severe illness, and it is not known if she has sought and received medical treatment.

Cholera has an extremely short short incubation period – two hours to five days- which experts say enhances the potentially explosive pattern of outbreaks as the numbers can rise very quickly as people eat food or drink water from contaminated sources.

Cholera is an acute diarrhoeal disease that can kill within hours if left untreated. It caused by ingestion of bacterium Vibrio Cholerae present in faecal contaminated water or food.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) requires that suspected cases of cholera needs to be contained as an emergency. A single case of cholera is notifiable by Ministy of Health and WHO policies.

In Kenya of late, government is reluctant to declare confirmed cholera cases, including one outbreak two weeks ago which emanated from high-end Weston Hotel owned by Deputy President William Ruto. According to news sources, Jubilee Government keeps insisting that it is ‘food poisoning’ while medical sources have confirmed through lab tests that the patients are all cholera victims.

Consequently, because of government engineered cover up, there has not been any alert or acknowledgment that there is a cholera outbreak to necessitate appropriate response taken to contain the spread in accordance to WHO guidelines.

Because cholera is faecal-oral transmission, the bacteria will not remain in the hotels where the infection first broke out. Workers return home and hotel guests check out to return to their families. Then risk of spreading the disease is high.

Journalists covering the trade expo at KICC, some of whom are admitted to hospital displaying cholera symptoms, have been warned of dire consequences if they dare to report on the disease or reveal the name of the institution that provided outside catering to the event. Independent sources confirmed to Kenya Today that the KICC trade expo was catered by the high-end San Valencia Restaurant owned by, amongst others, former rally driver Phineas Kimathi.
