Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu has been roped into another scandal at the county following revelations that he awarded a Ksh32 million contract to his wife Susan Wangari.
The embattled Governor who is facing Ksh588 million graft charges and is out on bail, single sourced garbage management services and awarded the contract worth Ksh32,850,000 to wife Susan who is also his co-accused in the Ksh588 million road construction tender scam.
In a letter seen by our newsdesk dated March 6, 2019, Susan who owns Bins Management Services Ltd acknowledges receipt of a letter dated February 29, 2019 requesting services of supply of 100 skips for use in Karuri, Kikuyu, Thika, Ruiru and Limuru Municipalities.
Quoting tender number LHPP/MAUD/EQUIP/004/2018/2019, Susan who is the Director of Bins Management Services Ltd writes in part, “we accept the aforementioned works through this letter,” before going on to quote the tender price of Ksh32,850,000.
Governor Waititu, his wife Susan Wangari and eight county officials are facing corruption charges over the irregular award of tenders worth Ksh588 million.
The Governor who was barred from accessing his office over the charges had tried to seek orders quashing his barring from office but suffered a major blow on August 8, 2019 when Justice Ngenye Macharia ruled against him.
Justice Macharia described the governor as “morally ill” while saying he must stay away until the case is determined.
This effectively handed control of the county to Deputy Governor Dr. James Nyoro who wasted no time in getting down to service delivery for Kiambu residents.
Waititu and his wife Susan are out on Ksh15 million and Ksh4 million cash bail respectively.
It is yet to be seen whether EACC will swing into action and initiate fresh charges following the recent revelations.
