I’ll vie for presidency in 2022 on an ODM ticket, Gov. Oparanya declares

Date:

Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya has confirmed that he will be vying for president in the upcoming 2022 polls.

Oparanya who had initially hinted at vying for the top seat upon the completion of his second and last term as governor has been silent on the issue lately.

However, in an interview on Citizen TV’s News Night show on Tuesday night, the county boss said that he will be in the presidential ballot come 2022.

“Yes, I am running for president in 2022,” he said.

He added that he will be seeking the seat on an Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) ticket where he is currently the co-deputy party leader under opposition chief Raila Odinga.

“I am a member of ODM so I will be running on an ODM ticket,” he added.

Oparanya who doubles up as the Council of Governors (CoG) chair shares the post with his Mombasa counterpart Hassan Joho who is his co-deputy boss at ODM.

This comes at a time when Raila is also being considered a possible contestant in the race.

At the same time, Joho has also hinted at vying for the presidency after the end of his second and last term.
