By Senator Gideon Moi
I was shocked by the police brutality meted out on the Bomet governor H.E Isaac Rutto. It is unfortunate that the police, who are meant to protect the lives of the public, are the same ones assaulting them. I called on the Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet to immediately bring those involved to book.
Meanwhile other leaders have condemned the attack, here is their statement:
ELDERS AND LEADERS CONDEMN THE ATTACK ON GOVERNOR RUTO.
The police brutality against Bomet Governor H.E Isaac Ruto last Sunday has continued to draw reaction and condemnation by Elders and leaders from Bomet.
Speaking during a press conference in Bomet Town today, the leaders who included Mnyoot Council of Elders, former councillors and CCM leadership said it was wrong for the police to use excessive force on Governor Ruto.
They also took issue with Bomet County Commissioner Benard Leparmai for lying to Kenyans that the police did not attack Governor Ruto.
They described claims by the County Commissioner as a mockery of Justice saying he ought to have sought clarification from Governor Ruto on what transpired in Silibwet on Sunday instead of playing the defensive role.
Led by Mnyoot Council of Elders Bomet Chapter chairman Mzee Bartaa Arap Milgo, the leaders called for the transfer of Leparmai saying he has displayed biasedness over the matter.
The leaders also called on the Inspector General (IG) Joseph Boinett to order for the arrest of the the police officer who threw teargas canister directly on the governor.
Among those who spoke included CCM Secretary General David Socrets Sang and former defunct Bomet County Council chairman Alexander Chepkwony among others.
