KNUT officials locked out of Uhuru’s meeting at KICC

Date:

Kenya National Union of Teachers officials has been locked out of Education conference at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre.

According to reports, the officials were asked to get identification badges from Interior ministry in order to be allowed in.

They were locked out of the National Curriculum Conference which will be attended by President Uhuru Kenyatta on Friday.

The aim of the objective is to provide a platform for public dialogue on the curriculum and through that generate ideas that could help to refine and enrich it.

It provides singular opportunity to engage curriculum developers and implementers, ask tough questions and demands convincing answers.

Knut had intimated that it was opposed to the new curriculum out of fear that it will water down the role of teachers.

The giant teachers’ union had claimed there was inadequate teacher training, poor infrastructure, lack of legal framework although Parliament approved Ksh2.4 billion for implementation of the new system.

Knut secretary general Wilson Sossion argued that CBC reforms fit into the global education reforms movement modelled around huge business interests, increasingly being rejected worldwide.
