”I Am Likely To Lose My Job Because Of My Bad Decisions” – CS Matiang’i Begs Court Forgiveness

Date:

Interior CS Fred Matiang’i, Immigration PS Gordon Kihalangwa, and Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinett have now admitted that they are technically unfit to hold public office.

The three officials made the confession while appealing a ruling that found them guilty of contempt of court after they failed to produce NRM General Miguna Miguna before the High Court.

They were also sentenced with a fine of Sh200,000 that is supposed to be deducted from their April salaries.

In response to the charges, the powerful CS has now pleaded for the Court of Appeal to suspend the conviction, stating that it was likely to cost him his job in the government.

In an unusually emotional plea, the CS admitted that the conviction had exposed him to public stigma and ridicule.

“The erroneous declaration that I have been in violation of Article 10 of the Constitution instantly and immediately renders me technically unfit to hold public office”.

“I am likely to lose my position in the public service based on decisions and orders arrived at irregularly and unprocedurally. The declaration also undermines and erodes the public confidence required of a person holding my position and exposes me to stigma and public ridicule,” he stated in a sworn affidavit.

Matiang’i, while appearing before a Parliamentary committee, showed his belligerent side, accusing Justice George Odunga of being malicious when convicting him and two of his colleagues in government.

Matiang’i had also threatened to initiate disciplinary action against Justice Odunga before the Judicial Service Commission (JSC), even though that complaint has not been made.
