ODM Secretary general Ababu Namwamba has condemned violent chaos that rocked Senator Moses Wetangula’s presidential launch in Kakamega’s historic Muliro grounds.
In the strongest terms imaginable, I condemn the senseless mayhem in Kakamega today that has harmed innocent people and visited shame and odium upon a whole community and region. Anarchy is certainly no democracy- Ababu Namwamba said
Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka also condemned the chaos, he linked the ‘teargassing’ of the main dais to a “well-schemed plan” by Jubilee to try and divide Cord ahead of 2017.
“I want to tell the Jubilee shame on you. How dare you lob teargas at a very peaceful event like this? How shameless are you to teargas old and respected men like Burudi Nabwera?,” Kalonzo posed.
The ceremony turned chaotic and was disrupted for nearly half an hour as police lobbed teargas at the main dais forcing the leaders to be whisked away. It was not clear what prompted Police teargass the main dais as the event was undergoing smoothly despite ealier tension between Senator Khalwale and Governor Oparanya supporters.
Two people were seriously injured and rushed to hospital after a stampede as people scampered for safety.
