“There Shall Be No Elections In Kitui on 26th October” -Hon Ngilu

Date:

Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu has asked residents to boycott the October 26 repeat presidential election.

She said there will be no voting in the county, adding that Kenyans cannot be told to go back to the same referees who failed them.

“We declare that we will not and shall not participate in that election. Let IEBC show its independence and let [President Uhuru Kenyatta and DP William Ruto] stand and say they are going to elections with reformed IEBC,” she said during Mashujaa Day celebrations.

She said Uhuru cannot call for a national prayer day yet “he knows what he is doing is wrong”.

Leaders in the county said they will spend election day on other activities.

Among those who spoke in support of Ngilu is MPs Gideon Mulyungi (Mwingi Central), Musyimi Nzengu (Mwingi North) and Charles Nguna (Mwingi West).

Others were woman rep Irene Kasalu, Senator Enock Kiio and County Assembly Speaker George Ndotto.

They lauded the Governor for initiating life changing projects especially her Ndengu Revolution, Medical Outreach Programme, Farm Ploughing Programme among others.

The leaders also asked residents in neighbouring counties to boycott the election.

County commissioner Boaz Cherutich was heckled when he asked residents to vote, assuring there will be sufficient security.

Thursday has been declared a public holiday to enable voting.

NASA leader Raila Odinga has called for countrywide protests on election day, saying the IEBC cannot guarantee credible results.
