Kenyan singer Iyanii has left fans surprised after openly confessing that he is still a virgin at the age of 27. The “Pombe” hitmaker said he has chosen to wait until marriage before becoming intimate, a decision he has held onto since he was 12 years old.
Speaking during an interview with Alex Mwakideu, Iyanii explained: “I am a virgin, and I’m waiting for marriage. I’ve kept myself since I was 12, and this is a personal decision I made for my life.”
The artist also revealed that his girlfriend, Kemunto, shares the same belief and has also remained celibate. “She is also waiting, and that makes our relationship stronger. It’s about respect and commitment, not pressure,” Iyanii said.
Iyanii admitted that he ended past relationships with women who tried to push him to abandon his values. “I have broken up before when I felt someone didn’t understand my choice. If you love me, you will respect what I stand for,” he added.
The revelation has sparked conversations online, with fans reacting in different ways. Some praised him for being honest and disciplined in an industry where many celebrities chase flashy lifestyles. One fan on X (formerly Twitter) wrote: “Iyanii deserves respect, not many people can stand by such values today.” Another joked: “This is the plot twist of the year Iyanii of all people?”
Entertainment blogs like Sauce Kenya noted that Iyanii’s confession has set him apart in a music scene often associated with fast living, while Ghetto Radio described it as a bold step that may inspire others to stick to their personal beliefs.
For Iyanii, however, it is not about public opinion. He insists it is about staying true to himself and preparing for the future. “When I finally get married, it will be special because we both waited,” he said.
In an industry full of hype and controversy, Iyanii’s story has shown a different side of celebrity one that is grounded in values, patience, and love.
