My County Government recognizes the important role played by sports in enhancing national cohesion. Additionally, there are considerable health benefits associated with functional sporting and recreational services. In this regard, my government is investing in modern and high quality sporting and recreational facilities that will be distributed across the County.
Nairobi County Government is rehabilitating seven sports facilities to enhance sporting skills and nurture talent in the Kenyan capital. Last week we invited tenders for rehabilitation of sports facilities across the County.
This is in line with my quest to provide recreational facilities for the youth in the city. The sports grounds to undergo rehabilitation include Nairobi City Stadium, Jacaranda, Dandora, Kariokor, Kihumbuni and Woodley grounds in Kibra. The works on these facilities are set to start as soon as the designs and plans are complete together with procurement process. Public participation will be conducted and all stakeholders consulted before commencement of the projects.
The sporting grounds will be made to meet international standards to encompass utilities like changing rooms, referee rooms, inbuilt restaurants among other amenities.
