STATE PLANS TO SABOTAGE RAILA NAROK RALLY COME A CROPPER
By P Wesonga
When he was summoned to State House Nairobi for a brief nothing could have prepared Governor Samuel Kuntai Ole Tunai for the serious tongue lashing he was due received from President Uhuru Kenyatta

Governor Tunai was told in no uncertain terms that he was being held responsible for the dwindling fortunes of Jubilee among the Maa community. The president was angry that ODM Party Leader Raila Odinga was making substantial inroads into Narok and Tunai and other senior Jubilee leaders in the county were doing nothing to stop the ODM wave.

Matters were not helped by the fact the President was not well received at Narok during the recent funeral of the late Maasai kingpin William Ole Ntimama. To add insult to injury ODM leader Raila Odinga had received high profile Jubilee defectors from Narok led by former PS Joseph Tiampati.

Sources said that during the heated meeting at State House, Governor Tunai was threatened that his anti-corruption cases would be ressurected unless he proved his worth to JAP leaders. Last year the Govenor Tunai was cleared of corruption charges by the Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission (EACC).

Keriako Tobiko, the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) had ordered the investigations on Tunai in June of 2015. The investigations focused on Tunai’s alleged financial, procurement and human resource irregularities and centered improprieties on hire of helicopters, the Mara triangle revenue collection and procurement of Kenya Airports Parking Services Ltd. The three cases were dropped for a lack of evidence, but as he left State House Governor Tunai was told these cases would be revived and evidence would be tabled to the DPP.

Governor Tunai was then ordered to return to Narok and sell JAP. He was offered an unlimited budget to ensure that Maasais troop back to Jubilee, something that the Governor is presently finding very hard to attain.

In what amounts to discarding his gubernatorial duties to be a fully fledged Jubilee campaigner, Governor Tunai has today organised a major rally in Narok Majengo area where he also opened a refurbished Jubilee party office. But even after paying Sh.200/- each to boda boda rider of Narok, and 500/- to youth around the county to attend the rally does not seem to have excited the local residents who are eargely awaiting CORD leader Raila Odinga rally scheduled for Narok on Thursday this week.
