Until recently, Charles Odongo was a little known man outside his Rongai hood, where he operates a gym.
However, everything changed after a video of him passionately eating ugali went viral on social media.
In the video, the comical but well-built man amused his audience by the way, he grabbed a piece of ugali, deeped it into piece stew, threw it in the air before grabbing it again and directing it into his mouth.
The video was used to create memes, with Kenyans using its screenshots to demonstrate how one should ‘grab’ opportunities in life.

Days later, and self-proclaimed Twitter detectives, had traced the mystery ugali man to a gym in Ongata Rongai. Our guy is not only good at eating but also bodybuilding. And it seems he gets his big appetite thanks to the amount of calories he burns at the gym.
The viral video has come with good fortunes for Odongo as he just landed his first gig with leading betting firm Odibets. The bookmaker hired him for a commercial, which we may see on local tv in the coming days.
The commercial, developed from his initial ugali script, might just be as big a hit as the original video. We are not sure if this is a one time job or he will be Odibets’ brand ambassador going forward.
Apart from the Odibets gig, Onyango’s has gained a substantial following on Instagram, where he mainly shares videos from the gym. We hope this has translated to more visitors to his gym.
