‘The first accused is a male version of a Slay Queen. I would describe him as a woman eater’…

The prime suspect in the murder of Monica Kimani, Joseph ‘Jowie’ Irungu was on Tuesday denied bail, meaning he will stay in jail for the entire period of the trial.
High Court James Wakiaga ruled that the prosecution had proved its case that Jowie was a flight risk with no known fixed abode or any assets in the country, and was likely to abscond court hearings.
In his ruling, the judge said that the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) had showed that Irungu as a male version of a “slay queen” or a woman eater.

The fact that the accused had military training with access to guns added on the court’s fear that he was likely to intimidate witnesses if released.
The judge, however, ordered the Prison authorities to ensure that the suspect is treated and Kenyatta National Hospital and a report presented before court after 21 days.
Irungu’s co-accused and fiancee Jacque Maribe was, however, granted bail on account of the support provided by her employer and another one by Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko vouching that she would honour court hearings.
