Deputy president’s ally and Kikuyu Member of Parliament Kimani Ichung’wa has said they will oppose the BBI report.
President Uhuru Kenyatta, during the Sagana State Lodge meeting with political leaders from Mount Kenya region on Friday, urged patience, saying that he had not seen what is in the BBI report.
“I want to agree with those who have said, and that is what the president is also telling us, that we should bring the country together and even as we consider whatever proposals will come with the BBI report, sisi tuko na huo msimamo ambao rais amesema, document ikija, we shall read and make informed decisions based on what is there, ” the Kikuyu legislator said.
The BBI report is expected to be handed over to the Head of State and Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga in the coming days.
While Odinga’s allies have given the impression that they will wholly support the initiative, the allies of the deputy president have been more skeptical.
A section of politician from the Mt Kenya region had threatened to oppose the report should it recommend a parliamentary system that will take away the power of electing the president from the people.
They have maintained that whatever comes from the BBI report, it should include giving Kenyans the ability to choose, through universal suffrage, the person they want to lead them as president for a two 5-year term.
